La Semaine du français roughly translates to "The French Week". It all started with this

Amelie Mauresmo, from France, won her first Wimbledon title after being down in the first set. Then followed this

Sylvain Calzati, from France, won the 8th stage (181 kms) of the tour de France and won the yellow jersey. This is his first win in the tour de France. Sylvain Calzati become a hero from zero.

Then the big one.

The great Zidane who would have been placed along with Maradona, Pele after his retirement did the unthinkable. The magician became a zero from hero. It takes great effort to reach to the top but one stupid mistake will bring us back down. What a lesson this man has taught us.

And what a week the French must have had!

hey...Zidane sure threw away the most important match in the twilight of his career; but he sure did not become a zero!
It's only fair not to judge men like that from one silly action. My jaws dropped at that head butting incident and knew that France's fate was sealed the moment Zizou saw red (Neutral for this match...Italy France wouldn't have made a difference, but France could have had a better way to lose!). But still, it does place him among the greatest ...at least in the past decade. Maradona was no saint himself!

Jeevan - I too supported France in the finals :(. Yes. Atleast they won the winbledon and the tour de france stage race.

Arjuna - Looks Materazzi has made a racial comment. Looks like Zidane had trouble like this in the past.

Sat - Seems this is not the first time Zidane is involved in such an incident. It has happened in 1998 where he kicked an Saudi Arabian player. Incident's like this bring down the whole team not only the individual. The same happened to Hansie Cronje and Azhar. Anyway I am happy that he won the golden ball. Yeah Zero is a harsh term.

I actually suck at tagging game. But will try it out. :)

Last week, France has surely had a collage of joy and sorrow. Though I agree whatever Zizou did was not right, I would not say it was completely wrong. We don't know what Materazzi told Zizou, for him to react this way. There was a lot of pressure on Zizou, he might have reached his breaking point. But surely he has not become Zero. But a very sad way to end his otherwise sparkling career.

KK - Welcome. True. It's a bad way to finish a career. Yeah he is not a zero (he won the golden ball) but still what he did was completely wrong.
